Black & White Drawings On Larger Watercolor Papers
Custom Commissions
1500 K Street, Washington DC
Along with a couple of commissions I did this past year out of my oh so tiny studio/apt. I came up with this crazy and amazing idea for a whole new body of work that is a completely different direction, one that takes me back to how my artistic life began, and it entails molding two images together into one black and white ink drawing that will be a bit larger then life. It will be iconic in nature because of the subject matter and definitely a popular subject matter for collectors to gravitate to especially after they see the drawings in person.
The only aspect holding me back is certain limitations due to my disability and needing a little outside help, a little assistance to gather and attain the best materials and tools necessary to do the work. One of my goals is to soon be self sufficient as an artist and to not rely any more on an agency to help with my housing needs because of my disability.
On a Sunday in August of 2017, I received an email from Stacy Sklaver of Art Matters inquiring about a painting of mine a client of hers had seen on a design site and if I might be able to create something similar but larger. What the original piece was was a 17" x 14" oil painting with ink and gouache painted on paper. Also the oil paint had a unique texture since it had been sitting in a plastic tube for a while and it was congealed. I knew that it would be difficult to recreate that same texture for a client that wanted the paintings in a short amount of time because when you get an email on a Sunday from a client that is usually a sign that it needs to be done in a hurry.
Since I work 7 days a week (come on, I'm an artist with a Brain Injury Disability and I live alone because of it so what else am I going to do - insert smiling emoji here) I replied back and the next day I spoke with Stacy and below is the rest of the story I put on my Instagram feed but......
I couldn't put it on my Instagram feed until way after the project was completed and the paintings were installed and the building was opened and completed because of the sensitive for the sake of the client. So....
....
Through the efforts of Stacy Sklaver and Debbie Sotzsky of Art Matters, out of Washington DC, we were able to make this (photos of my gorgeous paintings installed in their permanent home at 1500 K St., Washington DC) happen, within a short amount of time through emails and a few phone calls. I could not have created the pieces any better then if I had been there myself.
P.S. Genie Canvas @geniecanvas played a big part in helping me get the commission completed. The owner, Mike, is so kind and helpful and without him and his wonderful canvases I could not have gotten it done in the short amount of time I needed to get it done.
